4 Do’s & Don’t’s of Moving Out

The time has come at last. You’ve closed on the house of your dreams and are about to get ready to move. If you feel stressed about the idea of packing all your things and hiring a moving company, that’s natural.

When moving out, things rarely go 100% smooth. It’s one of the many things that you’ll have to prepare yourself for.

We’ve got a moving dos and don’ts list that will help you brace yourself for anything the new change has to throw at you. Keep reading to learn what you can do to make moving into your home a little less overwhelming.

1. Do Prepare for Stress

Again, moving to a new home is going to be stressful. There’s no way that you can get around that. If it’s your first time, know that moving is a huge transition that’s going to take you way out of your comfort zone.

Your life also isn’t going to stop or slow down while you’re trying to pack boxes and converse with your real estate agent. You’ll have to work the entire process around your job hours and kids. Talk about a nightmare.

2. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask People for Help

The best way to cut back on the stress of moving into a new house is to ask for help. Your friends and family will be more than willing to assist with packing your things and carrying them to the moving truck.

Make sure you do thank your helpers. Treat everyone to a few pizzas once the job is finished. Dinner is more than acceptable as far as compensation goes.

3. Do Figure Out How Many Supplies You Need

It’s ten o’clock at night. You’ve gotten off your shift at work and are about to get some packing done when you realize you didn’t buy near enough bubble wrap and tape.

All the stores around you closed, so now packing is going to have to wait a day or so. You can avoid this scenario by taking inventory of the supplies you’ll need ahead of time.

4. Don’t Leave Everything Until the Last Minute

When you first start playing around with the idea of heading to a new home, it’s important to make a moving checklist and stick by it to the letter. Doing so will prevent you from putting everything off until the last minute.

That’s the worst thing you can do because it could cause you to have to pull an all-nighter right before the move. You’ll be too tired to carry things off the truck the next day!

Moving Out Dos and Don’ts

Moving out can be one of the most exciting times of your life, but it can also be stressful. If you put everything off until the last minute or fail to account for all the supplies you’re going to need, you’ll be tearing your hair out.

Cut back on the stress by following the do’s and don’ts we’ve highlighted here, and don’t forget to ask for help. For more tips that will make moving less of a nightmare, feel free to explore the rest of our blog.
