8 Tips to Eliminate Skin Oil Throughout Your Day

Are you sick of dealing with oily skin every day? Would you like some tips on how to reduce skin oil or eliminate it altogether?

You’re not alone on this journey, which means many remedies have been found to help combat oily skin. Whatever your age or profession, skin oil can be a nuisance in your everyday life, and it’s not your fault that your skin may be more prone to oil than others.

Keep reading to learn some tips on how to get your skin oil under control so you can continue to live your life to the fullest.

1. Wear Your Sunscreen

No matter what type of skincare routine you’re looking into, the first step will always be sunscreen. It’s so important in order to both protect your skin from the sun and keep it healthy.

While you may think that those with oily skin shouldn’t wear sunscreen, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Instead, you’ll need to read the labels and choose a sunscreen that suits your skin type the best.

Go for one that has a lightweight formula and contains mineral blockers, such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, as these are anti-inflammatory and don’t promote oil production. You’ll also want to choose one that is made explicitly for faces.

Sticking to a lightweight sunscreen won’t make your face look greasy but will, most importantly, protect it from any harmful UV rays.

2. Choose Your Cleanser Wisely

If you’re looking to learn how to get rid of oily skin, you’ll need to be wise about choosing an oil-fighting cleanser. While you may think a harsher product will help keep your skin dry, it may actually cause oil production to rebound.

Instead, choose a gentle foaming cleanser that has benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These will help get through your pores to keep them cleaned out.

When you’re done using your cleanser, avoid scrubbing your face. Instead, gently apply the cleanser and allow it to do its work.

3. Remember Your Moisturizer

When skin is too oily, you may have the idea that skipping your moisturizer is the best idea. Yet, this can cause oil production to rebound, and your skill will become even more oily.

Moisturizing your skin after washing is like adding an extra layer of protection against your skin. Make sure to use a light, oil-free moisturizer, and read more here to learn what else you shouldn’t be skipping during your skincare routine.

4. Consider Different Makeup

While you may prefer a particular type of makeup, you should instead consider choosing products for oily skin. Makeup that is creamy tends to become cakey and clog pores, while mineral-based powders are made to be non-comedogenic.

Switching to powders from creams can help control oil, reduce shine, and hide impurities, and there are many powder alternatives to any creams that you may be already using.

5. Keep Blotting Papers

While they won’t eliminate oily skin, keeping blotting papers close to you throughout your day can help manage your skin as you go from task to task.

You can find blotting papers that are made to absorb oil without ruining your makeup. Most are made from natural materials and are hypoallergenic, so you don’t have to worry about breakouts.

6. Try Misting Sprays

Generally, those with oily skin want to reduce the amount of shine on their faces. Yet, if you get overheated or are in a hot and humid climate, you’re more likely to sweat and produce oil.

Using misting sprays on your face can help cool you down, reducing the oil and sweat production without adding something heavy to your skin.

Avoid using anything that isn’t water-based, and if you can, using cold water is the best remedy.

7. Keep Your Hands off Your Face

As most people learned in the past few years, you want to avoid touching your face. Besides all of the dirt and bacteria you’re transferring from whatever you touch directly to your face, you’re also transferring oil.

This combination can lead to clogged pores and increased acne, so while it can be very tempting, avoiding touching your face is essential.

Unless, of course, you’re cleansing, applying sunscreen, adding moisturizing, or putting on makeup.

8. Reduce Your Stress

If you’re dealing with something very stressful, your body will produce more cortisol, which can then cause your body to produce excess oil.

You may have noticed breakouts occur when you’re extra busy at school or work or if you’re dealing with personal or life issues.

To reduce stress levels, try to take time throughout your day to relax. You can take a walk, do some yoga, journal, read, or watch TV. If you live an extra busy lifestyle, just taking a few moments to do mindful breathing can reduce cortisol levels.

Helping to keep your mind and body calm will also help get your oily skin under control, all while promoting a healthier lifestyle.

Use These Tips to Help Reduce Skin Oil

While excessive skin oil can be frustrating, there are many different ways to combat it, and you’re not nearly the only one suffering from it. Be mindful of what you’re putting on your face, try to reduce some stress, and do your research before trying anything you’re unsure of.

If you have any questions about specific products, it’s best to consult with your doctor before trying something new. Remember, it’s your skin, and you want to take care of it.
