Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade aren’t doing anything to dispel the suspicions that their marriage is in trouble by staying mum. Due to the lack of any images or videos of the couple at their Thanksgiving event, speculation over problems in Wade Paradise has intensified among social media users.
Instead, the ex-NBA star used his Instagram Story to feature photos of his father, friends, and other relatives. “I Have So Much To Be Thankful for #happythanksgiving,” he captioned a single selfie he posted to his account.
“Gabby, where are you? I love seeing the two of you together.” and “Why isn’t your wife in this photo?” two people penned their comments underneath the picture
Union doesn’t appear very often in the clips, but she did make a notable appearance when Wade showed her and their daughter, Kaavia James, singing karaoke. Another selfie he posted was of himself and his daughter.
The couple, who have been married for almost ten years, were last seen celebrating Halloween and their daughter’s birthday together on social media last month. In the time after, the Naismith Hall of Famer was seen attending a GQ Man of the Year afterparty without his wife or wedding band, as he walked the red carpet.
At other fashion shows, the “Perfect Find” star has been seen attending solo. In October, Union celebrated her 51st birthday with a party that included friends and relatives like Tia Mowry. Her husband was conspicuously missing from the footage.
In recent weeks, a number of fan-made movies on YouTube have gone viral, purporting to reveal the truth behind an adultery scandal that led to a divorce. “She didn’t lose a husband, she lost a roommate,” one commenter said.
Since it came to light that they divided the family child-related bills 50/50, the couple has been the target of criticism for their interpersonal dynamic. Underneath another video report speculating about the split, someone else added, “This is a business marriage — witness all the commercials they’re doing.”
This would be Wade and Union’s second divorce if the allegations of separation are accurate. When he and his high school girlfriend Siohvaughn L. Funches filed for a divorce in 2007, they had been married for five years. Together, they have two kids.
Chris Howard, a former NFL player, was the actress’s husband for four years. In 2005, they did a breakup. Both partners in the unstable marriage were complicit in Union’s admission of infidelity.
His daughter Zaya came out as transgender in 2020, and he says, “I don’t want to just be one of those people who’s just been given to Zaya and she doesn’t feel open and confident in me.” Zaya is now 16 years old. “I want to be there for her as a rock in life by modeling unconditional love for her to see.”
His role as a “great advisor” is not limited to his daughter with actress Gabrielle Union; it encompasses all five of his children. The ex-Miami Heat guard always makes an effort to provide his kids “spaces where you feel that it’s no judgment” when he talks to them. Being able to openly confide in his parents and have them do the same has given him the habit he desires to pass on.
Regardless of his initial opinions before becoming a dad, this worldview has persisted. Wade revealed to PEOPLE that when Zaya revealed her new identity, it challenged his “whole different mentality of how the world looked”; he was speaking about his experience as executive producer of the new documentary short, The Dads, on Netflix.
The kind of individuals that love you unconditionally, regardless of your identity or how you present yourself, are true friends, family, and neighbors, he says. Things in life reveal who is genuine and who isn’t because we use the word ‘I love you’ so sloppily. You don’t lose friends, but you do shed some baggage when the fakes disappear and the real ones appear.
