The NFL nation is currently being swept up by two narratives.
Some members of the NFL media have started to say that the offense is different for the Chiefs without previous offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after the Chiefs’ 21-17 home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
From the flip side, do you recall when Ron Rivera brought up the fact that certain players had griped about Bieniemy’s coaching style and interactions with them throughout training camp?
The Washington fans have recently spoken out against Bieniemy for ordering two consecutive snaps from the shotgun last week against Dallas, despite the fact that the Commanders only needed one yard each time.
Word on the street is that not all Commanders players are on board with Bieniemy serving as interim head coach. Thankfully, it was resolved last Friday when Ron Rivera spared himself for the rest of the season by dismissing Brent Vieselmeyer and Jack Del Rio.
Left defensive end The late, great Charles Leno was not bashful about going on the record. “It would be the same.” Leno said in response to the suggestion that Bieniemy might serve as interim HC in the event if Rivera were sacked. Ultimately, [Bieniemy] would be concentrating on our offensive, while [defensive coordinator] Jack [Del Rio] would be concentrating on our defense. As compared to the present moment, what is different?
Not a single player has publicly stated their desire for Rivera to reclaim part of the authority he granted to Bieniemy, but rumors have it that there are a few.
So, it seems that Rivera did, in fact, worry about Bieniemy’s manners in relation to the offensive players during the preseason. Is it true that some of these problems persisted all season long?
Keep your naivete in check; Andy Reid wanted Bieniemy out of Kansas City so he could reassert Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator. However, why is that?
