The hotly anticipated Breeders Cup is set to take place at the beginning of November, which means that gamblers will be on the lookout for the best horses to wager on for the 14 huge races that will be taking place throughout the meeting.
The best way to find the leading horses in the world is by studying the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings.
Here, you will be able to find the top-rated horses up until the 4th October, with the next set of rankings not being released until the middle of November. The majority of the table is made up of horses from Great Britain and Ireland, but there are a number of American horses that gamblers should be aware of before the Breeders’ Cup takes place in November.
Tiz The Law
Tiz The Law is the highest-ranked American horse in the Longines Rankings, and it isn’t hard to see why, as the three-year-old has enjoyed an excellent season so far. The Barclay Tagg-trained horse has won two from three starts, which has included success in the Belmont Stakes and the Runhappy Travers Stakes.
These two Grade 1 successes ensured that the three-year-old was the one to beat going into the Kentucky Derby at the beginning of September, but Tiz The Law was unable to get a second Triple Crown success of the season as he was beaten by Authentic by one and a quarter lengths.
However, there isn’t any doubt that this three-year-old will remain a big player at the Breeders’ Cup and he is set to run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on the second day of the meeting.
Authentic
One of the other leading contenders for the Breeders’ Cup Classic is Authentic, who has already won the Kentucky Derby this season.
Nonetheless, the three-year-old will come into the Breeders’ Cup Classic having lost last time out at Pimlico in the Preakness Stakes. Authentic was the heavy favourite to win that race, but he was narrowly beaten by a neck by Swiss Skydiver.
That was the second defeat that Authentic has suffered since June, as he was also beaten in the Runhappy Santa Anita Derby by Honor A.P. However, his win in the Kentucky Derby ensures that he is still ranked highly by Longines, and he will be one of the horses to watch at the Breeders’ Cup this year.
Improbable
The other leading contender for the Breeders’ Cup Classic is the third-highest ranked horse in the Longines Rankings, as this four-year-old is rated as the tenth best overall.
There is no doubting the ability of Improbable, as he is one of the finest horses in training, and his form this season has been excellent. The four-year-old hasn’t lost since April and has won his last three.
The first of those came in the Hollywood Gold Cup Stakes at Santa Anita in June, while the success was followed up with wins in the Whitney Stakes at Saratoga and Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita.
Improbable’s form has been dominant throughout the year and is rightly considered the favourite for the Breeders’ Cup Classic, as he is certainly on an upward trajectory ahead of this first showdown with Tiz The Law.
Tom’s d’Etat
Also ranked at tenth overall in the Longines rankings is Tom’s d’Etat, who is still rated highly after an impressive period between November 2019 and April 2020.
His two biggest successes came in the form of the Hagyard Fayette Stakes in October 2019 and the Clark Stakes at Churchill Downs in November 2019.
The seven-year-old will be among those running in the Breeders’ Cup Classic this year, but he has already been beaten by Improbable this season.
