Moving day is commonly described as one of the most stressful events we go through in life. However, with a little planning and time management, it doesn’t have to be quite that drastic.
By spending some time preparing for moving day you can cut your stress and the time you spend moving your household. That’s why we put together this handy list of 4 things to prepare for moving day. So, let’s get started!
1. Get Organized
First things first, get your space organized and reduce the amount of stuff you have. This is the perfect time to go through the attic or basement and clear out those bulky exercise machines and old Halloween costumes.
When you get rid of your extra stuff, you can start organizing what’s left. It’s important to know where everything is before you start packing.
2. Plan Moving Day
Next, you’ll want to actually plan how you want to handle moving day. Do you plan to hire movers or rent a truck? What time do you need to be moved out by and when can you start moving in?
If your new place is going to be too small for all of your belongings now is a good time to think about storage solutions. Be sure to think about all of your storage needs before making your choice.
3. Pack Smart
You can start packing some things in advance to make it a bit more manageable. You can start with things like your important documents, art, trinkets. Anything that you’re not likely to use before moving day comes.
Once the big day gets a bit closer you can start packing the bulk of your clothes, dishes, and linens. Be sure to write which room the boxes go to keep unpacking simple.
In the last week in your home begin to move boxes into one area for quick loading. In the last few days begin to move your furniture into the room closest to the door.
4. Last Night
On the last night in your old house be sure to pack an overnight bag for each member of your household. Be sure to include toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower supplies, and a change of clothes. This can save you having to unpack a bunch of things to just go unwind and to bed after a long day.
You’ll also want to do one last deep clean before you leave. This leaves a clean property for the next occupants, and you don’t have to worry about doing it after you’ve packed the truck.
