Asking older millennials and Gen Xers if they ever imagined Snoop Dogg going from representing West Coast “gangsta rap” to trading gardening advice and recipes with Martha Stewart would likely elicit a negative response. However, this legendary figure in hip-hop has perfected the professional pivot to the point where many members of Generation Z and Alpha may be unaware of his extreme beginnings.

You can’t deny Snoop Dogg’s street cred, and he has shown that being genuine is more effective than trying to please everyone. You might be wondering how much this West Coast rapper, actor, and entrepreneur is worth after spending decades in and around the music industry, becoming a staple.

The Story of California

Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., better known as Snoop Dogg (and Snoop Doggy Dogg in his previous rap career), came into this world in 1971. You may recognize Snoop Dogg’s musical trajectory; he hails from Long Beach, California. At the Golgotha Trinity Baptist Church, he made his piano and singing debut when he was a little boy. He was so enamored with the beloved beagle from the Peanuts cartoon that his mother gave him the moniker “Snoopy.”

He started rapping instead of singing at church by the time he was in sixth grade. Relatives and friends from his younger years remember him as someone who was quite involved in extracurricular activities, including football, school, and religion. Even though his mother did her best to keep him out of trouble, Snoop Dogg says in an older interview that he was involved with the wrong crowd and had a troubled youth. However, he was also perfecting his craft at this time, performing impromptu shows in school halls on occasion.

They started recording mixtapes and one of them made it to Dr. Dre; he was also friends with Nate Dogg and Warren G. After listening to Snoop’s demo, Dr. Dre was so impressed that he invited him to test for his Death Row Records company in 1991. His debut album, “Doggystyle,” was released a year later by Snoop Doggy Dogg.

Rankings and Disagreement

Several songs from “Doggystyle” made it to the top 10 and remained there for months, making it a huge hit. Singles like “Gin and Juice” and “Who Am I (What’s My Name)” contributed to Snoop Dogg’s rise to fame. His distinctive delivery and silky voice distinguished him from other gangsta rappers of the day, even though his music was frequently subject to censorship due to its firmly classified nature.

Snoop was being tried and ultimately cleared of first-degree murder charges at the same time as his career was taking off. The 1994 short film and music “Murder Was the Case” were inspired by this. He says this case was a watershed moment when he decided to focus less on the gangsta rap and more on expanding his career and leaving a lasting impact. He signed legends like Charlie Wilson (of The Gap Band) when he founded Doggy Style Records, Inc. in 1995.

Death Row Records: A Life Beyond

Crucially, Snoop was embroiled in a dispute with Death Row Records for ownership and royalties in the mid-1990s. Before signing with Master P’s No Limit Records in 1998, he took a brief hiatus from making music till his contract was up. After that, he released albums that sold over a million copies each in a row. Between 2002 to 2004, he changed labels, first to Geffen Records/Star Trak Entertainment (The Neptunes) and then to Priority/Capitol/EMI.

Another change came in 2012 when Snoop Dogg, taking inspiration from Rastafarianism, adopted the moniker Snoop Lion, and released the reggae-influenced single “La La La.” In this time, he dabbled in a wide range of musical styles, releasing 2012’s “Loose Joints” as an electronic music compilation and 2018’s “Bible of Love” as a gospel album.

Amount of Money Snoop Dogg Has

Snoop Dogg’s estimated net worth is $160 million as of this article’s publication. His extensive music repertoire is a major contributor to its value. Snoop Dogg, on the other hand, is a cunning businessman who knows that spreading his money around is the surest way to create wealth and secure his legacy.

Additional endeavors of Snoop Dogg

For those who know their Snoop Dogg music inside and out, acting was one of the artist’s early ventures outside of music. Whether it’s as a character or as Snoop Dogg himself, Snoop Dogg has been in plenty of films and TV episodes since 1994. His most well-known roles include those in “Soul Plane,” “Training Day,” and “Baby Boy,” all of which are popular films. In addition to being an actor, he has voiced the character Cousin Itt in the animated versions of The Addams Family. “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Challenge” was his hit show with Martha Stewart, and it spawned a slew of cookbooks and cooking specialties.

However, Snoop does have other talents outside acting. In 2016, he was even inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He has also made appearances on Wrestlemania. Notable investments include the cannabis delivery business Eaze, the digital media portal Merry Jane, another cannabis endeavor Leafs by Snoop, and an esports league called Gangsta Gaming League. He is also an active investor and entrepreneur.
