So, what is today’s Wordle answer for game #1,461?

Drumroll, please — it’s CURIO.

Hello Wordlers. Today, I defied the odds to be without a green letter for the first three turns, despite having two yellows on my first go.

I began, as usual, by playing ORATE, which contains all five of the most common Wordle letters. Today, it was modestly effective, turning both ‘O’ and ‘R’ yellow, and leaving 62 possible answers, according to WordleBot.

Naturally, the Bot’s best Wordle start words were more efficient. TRACE leaves 28 answers, while CRATE lowers that to 13. If you opened with CARET, just eight options would be left in play.

Wordle #1,461

I try to deploy a mix of ‘L’, ‘I’, ‘S’, ‘N’, and ‘C’ on my second turn, and I was able to maximize that strategy with three of them today.

I played SCORN, which ruled out my two existing characters in a new spot each, while adding a yellow ‘C’ to the mix. Just seven options remained, according to WordleBot*.

Unfortunately, I picked one of the wrong options first, typing in ROCKY. This shuffled all of my yellow letters around, meaning that ‘R’ could only sit in third or last spot, ‘O’ in fourth or last, and ‘C’ in first, fourth or last.

Only one word fit that with my remaining letters, and it took me a while to think of it. I got it in the end, though: CURIO.

Hopefully you didn’t have to struggle too hard for this one, Wordlers. See you tomorrow.

* These were: COLOR, PORCH, CORGI, BORIC, ROCKY, CURIO and CORKY.
