Chinese cross-country skier Dinigeer Yilamujiang and Nordic athlete Zhao Jiawen lit the Olympic flame. The formal beginning of the Olympic Games starts from February 4 and will end till February 20. In total 91 countries will be participating in these games. It means more than 2800 athletes will compete in 109 events during Beijing Olympics winter games.
If you talk about US representatives, 224 athletes from 31 different states represented the United States. Olympic curler John Shuster and bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor were named as the US flag bearers. However, Meyers Taylor cannot attend the opening ceremonies as she is COVID-19 positive. So, Speed skater Brittany Bowe replaced Meyers Taylor as a flag bearer.

The United States got fourth position on the medal table in PyeongChang. In total it got 23 medals, out of which are gold, 8 are silver and 6 are bronze. So, similar results are expected in Beijing also. Mikaela Shiffrin (Edwards, Colorado), Shaun White (Carlsbad, California), and Nathan Chen (Salt Lake City, Utah) are some of the biggest stars of the Team. They are expected to compete in the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Shaun White is a three-time Olympic gold medalist. He can become the first man of the team USA to win the same event at three Olympic Winter Games. Mikaela Shiffrin is a two-time Olympic gold medalist. She can potentially compete in five events in 2022 because of the schedule. Nathan Chen is the three-time reigning world champion in men’s singles. He will remain the favorite for gold in the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Other than these three, 17-year-old Chloe Kim made history in PyeongChang as the youngest competitor to win a gold medal on halfpipe. She will be participating in the Beijing Olympics for the same. In PyeongChang, Maame Biney was the first Black woman and the youngest skater to make the speed skating team. This year she won the overall title at the U.S. Championships. Colby Stevenson will be a top contender in slopestyle in his Beijing Olympic debut.
