According to an incident report from the Nevada sheriff’s office, actor Jeremy Renner was crushed on New Year’s Day while attempting to prevent his snow-removal tractor from rolling and crushing his grown nephew.
The 52-year-old “Avengers” actor used the track-based snowcat to free his nephew’s pickup from the snow, but the parking brake was not applied, causing it to slide sideways, according to a redacted report filed Friday by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
The narrative says as follows: “The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake.” ZOBUZ got this information on Tuesday through a public records request.
Based on our mechanical investigation, we assume that the parking brake would prevent the Pistenbully from moving forward, despite the fact that it had some mechanical faults. To save his nephew from harm, Renner tried to stop or redirect the Pistenbully, but the track dragged him beneath the truck and he was ran over.
“Mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident,” the report adds, and the snowcat’s cab’s brake indicator light wasn’t working either.
The report indicates that until rescue arrived, Renner was able to receive assistance from his nephew. After being transported to the hospital by helicopter, Renner spent almost two weeks there, receiving treatment in the intensive care unit and undergoing no less than two surgeries.
It was also determined that impairment played no role in the occurrence, according to the report.
Actor dragged under moving train, according to report
According to the incident report, Renner informed authorities while hospitalized on January 5 that the event started on New Year’s Day when he pulled his nephew’s truck out of the actor’s driveway after it got stuck in the snow.
“It began to roll down the hill” after the snowplow started “sliding sideways” after pulling the vehicle onto the street, according to Renner. Renner informed authorities that he leaped out of the snowcat at that moment.
The incident was reported to have occurred when he disembarked from the Pistenbully and realized that it was en route to his nephew. “His nephew was in danger from the Pistenbully, so he took action to either halt or redirect it.”
According to the investigation, Renner was “immediately pulled under the left side track” as he climbed onto the snowplow’s moving track in order to reach the cab.
According to a 911 call log Renner was “absolutely crushed under a large snowcat (vehicle)” and was having “extreme (difficulty) breathing.” The report further stated that “the right side of his chest… collapsed – upper torso is crushed.”.
A report states that the Pistenbully rolled over the man and proceeded down the road. “Until medical help came, he lay on the ground and concentrated on breathing as (his nephew) and others helped him.”
Renner, who portrays the superhero archer Hawkeye in the Marvel film and television series “Universe,” reportedly shattered around 30 bones during the event.
“Morning workouts, resolutions all changed this particular new years…,” he captioned an Instagram shot he took last week. The seed of love that swiftly sprang out of a sorrow that befell my entire family ❤️ Please know how much my family and I appreciate all of your well-wishes and comments… Thank you from the bottom of my heart. These thirty or more fractures will heal and become stronger with time, just as the love and connection with loved ones does. Sending best wishes and love to everyone.
