What does today’s Wordle start with?

The answer to Wordle #1,378 starts with V, so combined with the hints above you should now have all the clues you need to get the answer and not break a Wordle streak.

OK, it’s now time to scroll down for the answer…

So, what is today’s Wordle answer for game #1,378?

Drumroll, please — it’s VERSE.

Hello Wordlers. For the second day running, a puzzle with a repeated ‘E’. This one compounds the difficulty by starting with ‘V’, the fifth rarest character in the game.

My opener of ORATE, which contains the five most common Wordle letters, was still pretty effective, turning ‘E’ green and ‘R’ yellow. That left 31 possible answers, according to WordleBot*.

The Bot’s best Wordle start words were even stronger. CARTE, for example, leaves 21 answers, while STRIP lowers that to ten. If you opened with PARSE, only seven options would be left over.

I aim to play a mix of ‘L’, ‘I’, ‘S’, ‘N’, and ‘C’ on my second turn, and today I included the maximum of three with RINSE. It was very good, turning ‘S’ green and ruling out ‘R’ in a second spot. The answer had to be ??RSE.

Just three options fit that bill, but I got the wrong one first with CURSE. That ruled out PURSE, and only left one possibility.

I got it pretty quickly. Realizing the need for a repeated ‘E’, I typed in VERSE to complete the puzzle in four moves.

Hopefully you did well today, Wordlers. See you tomorrow.

* These were: CURVE, MERGE, PURGE, VERVE, WHERE, PUREE, LUCRE, REVUE, RHYME, RUBLE, RUPEE, SERVE, SPREE, SURGE, SCREE, CURSE, PURSE, VERSE, RIFLE, RIDGE, SPIRE, SHIRE, NURSE, GENRE, NERVE, EERIE, REUSE, RINSE, DIRGE and INURE.

Reading this in a later time zone? The Wordle answer for game #1,377 was SHEET.

Hello Wordlers. A slightly tricky one today, as answers with repeat characters usually are.

I began with ORATE, which includes all five of the most common Wordle letters. Today, it only revealed two yellow characters: ‘T’ and ‘E’. That left a massive 87 possible answers in play, according to WordleBot.

The Bot’s best Wordle start words were better. SPLIT leaves 23 answers, while CARET lowers that to 21. If you opened with SHALT, only seven options would be left over.

I like to prioritize ‘L’, ‘I’, ‘S’, ‘N’, and ‘C’ on my second turn, and today I did that with TILES. It was a solid move, turning E’ green, ruling out ‘T’ in a second spot and giving me a yellow ‘S’ to play with. Eight possible answers were left, according to WordleBot*.

I tried UPSET next, which turned ‘T’ green, but left ‘S’ yellow. The answer had to be either S??ET or ?S?ET.

I could think of two options: SWEET or SHEET. Unfortunately, I picked the wrong one.

But with SWEET confirming the presence of a second ‘E’, it was clear what the answer was. I typed in SHEET to complete the game in five moves.

Hopefully you did it faster than me, Wordlers. See you tomorrow.

* These were: SHEET, SWEET, SKEET, UPSET, STEEP, BESET, STEED and UNSET.
