Workshop: on a city trip
The winter period is traditionally a popular time to go on a city trip. There may be several reasons why we want to get away from it all in the first months of the year. Whatever your reason may be, capturing a trip can sometimes be quite a search. The official website works with 800 partners to help you compare the best means of transport and prices in an instant. In this workshop we explain how that works.
Step 1 choose your destination
Your city trip starts when you surf to several websites. Enter your destination on the front page of the website. You can search for the best connection for almost all cities in Europe. It provides you with information about trains, buses and planes, both for a single and a return trip. You also see a possibility to search for accommodation via booking.com. This refers you to the booking.com website, which immediately shows you hotel options for the specified destination and dates. Moreover, the service is completely free. You can create an account, but it is not a requirement to use the site.
In this fictional example we want to book a trip from Brussels to Berlin. We will leave on Saturday January 11 and return on Tuesday January 14. We consciously choose Brussels because the website only provides information about flights if an airport is present.
Step 2: Search and compare transport
Press Search and you will immediately see all transport options. You will see that prices are compared for train rides, bus rides and flights. This way you can find the best combination between getting there quickly on the one hand and the most financially interesting deal on the other. You can filter the search results in different ways. If you want to wait a bit longer because you hope the prices will drop, you can activate a notification with which it will keep you informed of price changes.

In our fictional example we see a nice price for a nominal fare return flight. Since traveling by train or bus would be a lot more expensive and longer, we no longer have to doubt. You make your choice by clicking on the journey, after which you can immediately choose your return journey. Omio suddenly charges any additional costs if there are any.
Step 3: Pay immediately
Are you satisfied with your travel schedule? Then you can immediately book your transport within minutes! Enter your details in the ‘Passenger details’ menu. Once that is done, you will be redirected to the payment page to check everything again and pay for the trip. Charges of another € 1 service charge. Please note:you must pay with a credit card or PayPal / Google Pay. Tickets are sent by mail afterwards. On booking.com you can suddenly look for a nice hotel. Time to pack your bags! Surf to typing. Once you have arrived on the website, you can choose from a few options. This way you can set the duration of the test that you are going to undertake. Those who want an answer quickly can choose one minute, but those who prefer to get going can choose three or five minutes. Below that you can choose single words, sentences or any text. We prefer the latter, because you can also choose Dutch text via ‘Select text’.
