Gather Essential Packing Materials
When packing fragile items, it’s vital to gather essential packing materials before getting started. Materials such as bubble wrap, packing paper, packing peanuts, and start boxes are all helpful for protecting breakable items while packing.
Bubbles wrap helps protect items from scratching and bumping against each other; wrapping things in packing paper or packing peanuts helps prevent them from getting scratched or broken.
While stacking boxes are excellent for grouping items and keeping them protected. It’s also a good idea to label any boxes that contain fragile items so that it’s easy to identify them during the move.
Packing fragile items can be challenging, but having all the necessary packing materials and labeling the boxes will help make a move go more smoothly.
Identifying Placement for Maximum Security
When packing a box of fragile items, it is important to properly identify their placement for maximum security. Firstly, larger, heavier items like dishes and glassware should be placed in the corners and at the bottom of the box.
Then, use bubble wrap, tissue paper, packing peanuts, or foam to protect each item individually. Pack similar items, such as vases, together for even more cushioning.
Once you finish packing the bottom of the box, place a layer of padded protection, such as air pillows or used towels, on top of the first layer. Add in the next layer of items, making sure to leave a space for cushioning material between each piece.
Use the same cushioning method for the top layer of fragile items, and fill in gaps with newspaper or more bubble wrap. Once the box is filled, seal it securely with packing tape and label it Breakables”. That way, you can be sure your items are safe in transit or storage.
Use Multiple Layers of Newsprint for Maximum Cushion
When packing easy-to-break items, it is important to use multiple layers of newsprint for maximum cushion. Start by placing a layer of newsprint at the bottom of the box.
Place the fragile item on top of the newsprint and then use more sheets of newsprint to fold around the item. If needed, place additional pieces of newsprint over the item until it is completely covered.
Depending on the size of the item, you can use more than one box and layer the newsprint and item between the boxes. Be sure to stuff the empty spaces with additional sheets of newsprint to make sure the item is secure and will not shift while in transit.
Securing Your Fragile Items
When packing make sure each item is secure in the box or container. If you are using a box, ensure all edges, corners and sides are protected with cushioning material such as newspaper, foam or bubble wrap.
If using a plastic container, line it with a soft material such as packing peanuts or foam. Seal the box or container by using packing tape, preferably reinforced tape that is designed for more secure and efficient applications.
Make sure that the entire external surface of the box or container is sealed to protect your items during shipping. It is also a good idea to label the box or container with “FRAGILE” or “HANDLE WITH CARE” to ensure the carrier is aware of the contents.
Identifying and Labelling Fragile Pieces
Before packing fragile items, it is important to take the proper steps to identify and label them. To do so, check the items for any warning labels or markings, and if none are found, the item should be clearly marked with a label that indicates it is fragile.
When labeling the items be sure to write a brief description that specifies the item as fragile and its contents. Additionally, it is important to know how and what to pack when transporting fragile pieces.
Hire a Moving Company to Pack Your Fragile Items
When hiring a residential moving company, make sure to find one that is experienced in packing fragile items. Ask about their experience and how they pack items like glassware or antiques to ensure they will be safe and secure during transport.
If they don’t provide materials, you should source them yourself and inform the moving company which items require special packing to be sure they understand what you need. As the customer, make sure to label all fragile items clearly before the movers arrive.
Once they start packing, inspect the job to ensure that everything is securely wrapped and placed in the proper boxes. With a reputable company and attention to detail, fragile items should be safe during transport.
