Experiencing pain during a workout session isn’t always a bad thing.
In fact, it can be a good sign that you’ve pushed yourself to a point where your body needs to adapt to a change in a working capacity.
When exercising, your body will grow accustomed to a certain set of movements and training regimens. It’ll adapt to the training in such a way that it’ll trigger positive muscle growth.
Unfortunately, this can limit your ability to challenge yourself with something out of the ordinary. This is where workout pain comes into play.
Keep reading below for top tips to avoid and prevent workout pain.
Use Proper Form
One of the best ways to avoid and prevent workout pain is to use proper form when working out. When you use the proper form, you are less likely to injure yourself or put a strain on your muscles.
Additionally, using the proper form can help you get the most out of your workout and see better results.
If you are unsure of how to perform a certain exercise, ask a certified professional who has trained and certified at ASFA or research the exercise online before attempting it.
Warm-up Before the Workout
It’s important to warm up before you begin your workout to avoid muscle pain and injuries. A good warm-up will increase your heart rate and blood flow and loosen up your muscles and joints.
A good way to warm up is to do some light aerobic exercises such as jogging or walking, followed by some dynamic stretches.
Be sure to listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard – the goal is to get your body ready for your workout, not tire yourself out. That will result in overworked muscles.
Cool Down After Workout
Working out is great for your health and body, but sometimes it can result in pain. To avoid and prevent workout pain, be sure to cool down after your workout.
Cooling down helps your body to recover and can prevent stiffness and soreness. Drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after exercise, and give yourself time to rest.
If you do experience pain, ice the area for 20 minutes. Elevations and over-the-counter pain medications can help.
Wear Proper Shoes
Wearing proper shoes is one of the most important things you can do to prevent workout pain. Shoes that are too big or too small can cause blisters, foot pain, and other problems.
Shoes that don’t support your feet can also lead to pain in your knees, hips, and back. Wearing the wrong shoes can also make you more likely to injure yourself.
Avoid and Prevent Workout Pain
If you are experiencing workout pain, there are some things you can do to help prevent it. These include: staying hydrated, stretching before and after your workout, warming up and cooling down, wearing the proper footwear, and listening to your body.
If you follow these tips, you should be able to help prevent and avoid workout pain.
