You see them in courtroom scenes on TV and in the movies. You hire them when you need legal help, and they work tirelessly to ensure justice is served. They are lawyers, and they play a vital role in our society. Here are ten things you should know about lawyers like Mike G Law and what they do in our legal system.

1. Lawyers advocate

Attorneys are often referred to as “advocates.” Their job is to represent one side of a case, whether the plaintiff or the defendant. They do this by presenting evidence and arguing in court on behalf of their client.

Lawyers can also be advocates for children in need, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. They are often appointed by the court to represent these individuals in abuse and neglect cases. A lawyer might be appointed to represent a child needing a guardian or ensure an elderly person is not being taken advantage of financially.

2. Lawyers advise

When you hire a lawyer, you are usually doing so because you need legal advice. You might need help drafting a contract, negotiating a business deal, or understanding the terms of your divorce. Lawyers are trained to provide you with the legal counsel you need to make sound decisions.

If you are facing criminal charges, your lawyer will be by your side throughout the entire process, providing advice and guidance on how to best proceed. They will also investigate the facts of your case and work tirelessly to build a strong defense on your behalf.

3. Lawyers negotiate

In many cases, lawyers can settle without having to go to court. They do this by negotiating with the other party’s lawyer on behalf of their client. This can save everyone involved a lot of time and money.

If you are going through a divorce, Mike G Law will try to negotiate a settlement on the divorce terms, including child custody and property division. If you are accused of a crime, your lawyer may be able to negotiate a plea bargain with the prosecutor.

4. Lawyers draft documents

A considerable part of what lawyers do is document drafting. Attorneys draft and review all legal documents, including contracts, wills, trusts, and leases. They also draft motions and briefs for court filings.

Your lawyer will draft the purchase agreement if you are buying a house. If you are getting divorced, your lawyer will draft the divorce papers. If you are starting a business, your lawyer will help you draft the necessary paperwork.

5. Lawyers research

Lawyers are trained to do extensive research to find the information they need to build a case or provide sound legal advice. They know how to find relevant laws and court decisions and access various online and offline resources.

When a lawyer at Mike G Law is working on a case, they will often research prior cases with similar facts to see how they were handled. This helps them anticipate what might happen in their case and plan accordingly.

6. Lawyers teach

Many lawyers also teach courses at law schools or serve as mentors to young attorneys. They might be guest lecturers in a law class or lead a seminar on a specific area of law.

According to the American Bar Association, nearly 15% of lawyers teach in some capacity. This helps to ensure that the next generation of attorneys is well-educated and prepared to practice law.

7. Lawyers serve in government

Lawyers also play an essential role in our government. Many lawyers work for the local, state, and federal government. They might work as prosecutors, public defenders, or judges.

Some lawyers also serve in roles within the executive or legislative branch of government. They might work as legal advisers to the president or members of Congress. They might also work as lobbyists, advocating for certain laws or policies.

8. Lawyers give back

Finally, lawyers also play an important role in giving back to their communities. Many lawyers volunteer their time and resources to help those in need. They might provide free legal services to low-income individuals or serve on the board of a nonprofit organization.

Lawyers also donate money to causes they care about. They may give to political candidates or organizations that support their chosen profession. Some lawyers even establish foundations to support their favorite charities.

Final Thoughts

No matter what area of law they practice, lawyers play a vital role in our society. They provide a valuable service by protecting our rights and ensuring that justice is served.
