Middle Seat
The middle seat is often considered the least desirable spot on the plane. Passengers must straddle those on either side, as well as deal with armrests that are shared but not always evenly. Despite these drawbacks, the middle seat may offer the safest option for passengers.
Generally, the middle seats are located right over the main wing of a plane. These seats experience less turbulence than window or aisle seats, as they are further away from the wings.
Additionally, during impacts, the middle seat has the advantage of being more protected from the wings and engines than those on the outside. While the other passengers may not be as comfortable, being sandwiched in between two people can offer more security during turbulence and potential emergencies.
Back Row
The back row of a plane is often considered to be one of the safest seat on a plane for a passenger to sit. Sitting back-row ensures that the passenger is between layers of metal, adding an additional shield against potential turbulence.
The back row also has a higher chance of surviving a crash due to a design commonly referred to as the “curtain of death” that envelopes seating closer to the engine.
Furthermore, sitting in the back row will often mean that the passenger will board first, allowing them to quickly and easily find a comfortable, and safe seat in the back of the plane! While sitting in the back row may not be the most comfortable seat on the plane, it often provides passengers with an added peace of mind.
